Which local non-profit organization do you feel most connected to?

I feel most connected to Central Iowa Shelter & Services (CISS).

What favorite quote has guided you most in your journey?

"The first need of a free people is to define their own terms." — Stokely Carmichael. This resonates deeply with me in my leadership journey because it reminds me of the importance of owning our narratives and setting the direction for our communities. It fuels my commitment to create spaces where we can define success on our own terms, uplift our voices, and take control of our economic and cultural futures. It's a powerful call to lead with intention and purpose.

What is your favorite song lyric?

"Weight on my shoulder brings the best out" — Nipsey Hussle. This lyric reflects how challenges and pressure can actually fuel growth and bring out our strongest qualities.

What life accomplishment are you most proud of and why?

Persevering as a teenage mother has been one of the most defining aspects of my journey. I became pregnant as a senior in high school, and society often expects young mothers to follow a certain narrative. I refused to let those circumstances dictate my life. Balancing raising children while pursuing my education and building a career showed me my own resilience. Today, I stand proud as a wife, mother, leader, mentor, and advocate for others who face their own challenges.

Who or what has been your greatest inspiration in pursuing leadership?

The resilience and strength of the Black women in my life have been my greatest inspiration. They taught me to lead with compassion, integrity, and a sense of purpose. Their struggles and triumphs continue to fuel my desire to create opportunities, build equity, and leave a lasting impact on future generations.

If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?

Trust your instincts and never be afraid to take up space. You belong in every room you step into, and your voice is powerful.
