Economic disparity and racial inequity for Blacks in Polk County is real, but together we can erase it.  At The Directors Council, it’s all about community and the quality of life we create for all of us. There’s a place for you at our table, and we invite you to join us.

As the growth and vitality of Des Moines and Polk County as a whole continue, racial disparities persist, with little evidence of gaps narrowing for Black Polk County. From employment to health to financial inclusion to education to housing, data shows significant – and unacceptable – disparities.

Everyday people feel it. They deserve better.

It doesn’t have to be this way.  Together we can close the gap of inequity and disparity in the Black community. We can improve the lives of individuals in real and meaningful ways. Whether you’re part of an organization who supports these goals or a concerned neighbor who wants to help, you can join the work of The Directors Council.

The Directors Council is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization in Des Moines, Iowa, which formed in 2004.  We are Black CEOs and Executive Directors of successful Des Moines-area businesses and organizations.

With combined leadership experience of over 300 years, we harness a broad range of skills and experience to create change for Black Polk County and hold one another accountable. Our goal is to fill gaps in services provided to Black Polk County, shed light on issues we face, and work with others to drive results. We collaborate, not replicate.  It’s all about community.
