Executive Director Position

 

 

Mission: One Economy is a non-profit 501 © 3 organization dedicated to building an inclusive and equitable economy by providing financial products and services to underserved people. We create economic opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs, small businesses, and low-wealth consumers in the Greater Des Moines Area.  We will provide aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners with capital, education, and relationships that allow them to flourish.

 

Vision: One Economy will be the bridge between economic equity and financial and economic inclusion for African Americans and African immigrants in Polk County. We see a future in which all people and communities in Polk County have access to the investment capital and financial services they need to prosper.

 

The Executive Director of One Economy reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the overall leadership and fiscal viability of the organization. Additionally, the Executive Director is responsible for planning, design, implementation and effectiveness of all One Economy programs and services.

 

Major Functions/
Accountabilities:

 

  • Serve as leader in all activities necessary to achieve One Economy’s Mission and Vision statements.  

  • Ensure staff and Board of Directors have sufficient and up-to-date information.

  • Lead in the design and implementation of One Economy’s services and programs. 

  • Temporary: responsible for the day-to-day operations of the small business lending program, from development of loan leads and applications to loan packaging, credit evaluation, underwriting, closing, and servicing.

  • Serve as the chief public relations spokesperson for One Economy.

  • Oversee all functions of One Economy, including strategic planning and implementation of processes to measure, assess and improve the performance of the organization.

  • Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate and dismiss staff and contractors.

  • Collaborate with staff to submit an annual budget to the Board of Directors and provide leadership for all financial aspects of the organization.

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors on an annual development plan and serve as the leader in the implementation of fundraising projects.

  • Provide management of facilities of One Economy.

  • Provide leadership in marketing and fundraising efforts; events, grant writing, speaking engagements, and written communications.

  • Establish collaborative relationships with funders, civic leaders, community development intermediaries, community and faith-based organizations to further community development issues

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, public administration, city/urban planning or related field is preferred but not required with extensive experience.

  • Experience with small business development, particularly minority and immigrant-owned businesses.

  • 5+ years sales experience in financial services (preferably business lending) as a loan officer, loan consultant, business banker or sales rep at a microfinance institution, consumer lender, bank, credit union, leasing company or other financial institution.

  • Knowledge of or experience with unbanked, or under-banked populations is highly desirable.

  • Minimum of five years experience in upper level management administration.

  • Excellent management, verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven experience and track record to attract and cultivate donors in a not- for- profit environment. 

  • Strong organizational skills.
